Description

  • Formulate, formalize and implement employee policies that protect and retain staff, foster positive relationships, promote employee morale and motivation, and follow legal regulations. Ensure proper updating and distribution of employee handbook.
  • Oversee recruitment and hiring process to ensure thorough search and evaluation of competitive candidates. Coordinate interviews and recruiting efforts.
  • Coordinate and oversee new employee onboarding and orientation. Coordinate with managers to ensure new employee receives proper training.
  • Oversee and support the firm’s internship program.
  • Oversee firm’s evaluation system. Ensure evaluation system aligns with the firm’s core values and provides a supportive environment that fosters employee growth.
  • Calibrate manager reviews to ensure consistent and fair evaluation protocols and results across all employees.
  • Monitor the implementation of a performance improvement process with non-performing employees or their managers. Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Facilitate annual evaluations of firm leadership and all staff.
  • Select and supervise consultants, and coordinate projects of recruiters, insurance brokers, carriers, plan administrators, labor attorneys, and other outside sources.
  • Maintain all Human Resources documentation including personnel files, compensation and benefits, office policies, performance reviews, and legal guidelines.
  • Complete and process all HR related paperwork.
  • Generate, review, or approve all HR related reporting.
  • Review and approve non-exempt employee timecards and time-off requests in payroll system, Timberline and/or HeavyJob.
  • Work with Accounting Department to provide salary information and updates in accordance with company policy. Work with Controller to implement any necessary changes to payroll.
  • Conduct competitive market research to establish pay practices that help to recruit and retain superior staff.
  • Evaluate and obtain cost-effective, employee serving, competitive benefits; monitor national benefits environment for options and cost savings.
  • Coordinate open enrollment for benefits for all staff and enrollment for new employees.
  • Address employee questions and concerns around benefits and coordinate between insurance providers when necessary.
  • Conduct investigations when employee complaints or concerns are brought forth.
  • Consult on Firm Culture, provide feedback, and support efforts to maintain the firm’s place as an employer of choice in the industry.
  • Maintain knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices in employment law, human resources, and talent management.
  • Ensure compliance with employment, benefits, insurance, safety, and other laws, regulations, and requirements. Lead company compliance with all existing governmental and labor legal and government reporting requirements including any related to the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Department of Labor, worker compensation, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and so forth. Maintain minimal company exposure to lawsuits. Protect the interests of employees and the company in accordance with company Human Resources policies and governmental laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years HR leadership experience required in a mid-size company.
  • Strong knowledge of HR compliance policies and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Ability to maintain the utmost sensitivity and confidentiality as it relates to HR records and personnel issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of and experience with human resource information systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Will need to work in our Terryville, CT office regularly with some work from home flexibility.
