Our one-person Human Resources Department is responsible for performing all complex and routine HR related functions on a professional level, working closely with the operations of 21 quick service restaurants throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts.  This unique position requires someone with solid knowledge of employment law, while being willing to complete various administrative tasks.

Job Title: HR Manager/Generalist

Employment type: Exempt, Full-time, 40 plus hours per week

Hours: Typically, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm with flexibility

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment and Onboarding: Provide support to Operations leaders by screening potential manager candidates.  Responsible for creating and maintaining our ATS to stay on top of offerings to candidates (sign on bonus, retention bonus, etc.) and timely notification to payroll for processing.
  • HR Training: Provide one on one HR Training with all newly hired or promoted restaurant Managers.
  • Employee Relations Issues: Provide guidance and advice to managers for resolving employee challenges while maintaining consistent and corrective discipline procedures.
  • Investigations: properly handle claims of harassment and discrimination.
  • Ensure compliance: with CT and MA laws pertaining to DOL, FLSA, CHRO, FMLA, PFMLA, ADA, ACA EEO-1, OSHA, etc.
  • Terminations of Employees: Approve terminations; ensuring they are conducted with proper documentation and consistency. Manage unemployment claims with third party administrator.
  • Policies and Procedures: Assists with developing, reviewing and revising policies and procedures. Provide consistent interpretation/application of HR policies and procedures; maintains Employee Handbooks.
  • HRIS Administration: Able to work with ADP Workforce Now and Paradox/Olivia.
  • Benefit Coordination and Administration: Handles monthly eligibility, benefit inquiries, concerns, and complaints to ensure thoughtful, courteous, and time-sensitive resolution.
  • Lead annual open enrollment for group health benefits. This includes working with Brokers to ensure the best options and costs are secured. Lead the execution and delivery of any standardized state or federal reports which must be regularly filed including but not limited to 5500, Affordable Care Act (ACA) reporting,
  • Leave Management- Responsible for the timely completion and submission of paperwork for employees on any leave of absence.
  • Worker’s Compensation: Ensure proper reporting and handling of all workplace injuries.
  • Safety inspections are completed in restaurants on a rotating schedule.
  • Travel: Travel to company operated restaurants to handle employee relations issues, investigations, training, and other topics (Typically 1-2 days per week)
  • Participates in staff meetings, supervision, and other meetings as assigned.
  • Perform administrative tasks: related to staffing changes, resignations, terminations, leaves of absence, pulling new hire information, schedules, and maintain employee personnel files.
  • Additional duties as required.


Requirements

Education Requirements: bachelor’s degree required, concentration in human resources preferred with a minimum of 4 years HR Generalist experience required.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Previous experience in Human Resources is required.
  • Restaurant or retail experience is highly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work with all levels of management and employees.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proactive with excellent time management skills and a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn ADP and Paradox.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to travel to company operated restaurants in CT and MA. (Company vehicle provided)
  • Must be able to walk/stand for 4-6 hours at one time.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

Must have a valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving history and criminal background.

Compensation: $85,000 minimum to $125,000 maximum, depending upon experience. The actual rate will be determined at the time of the offer and will be based on relevant experience and internal equity.

You may see several different company names; Aldin Associates Limited Partnership, Savin Foods, and Savin Brands.  Aldin Associates is the company started by David Savin in 1982 which was a convenience store and fuel business.  Most of the people at the Main Office located in East Hartford, CT, work for Aldin.  Savin Foods was created in 2005 as a sister company to Aldin, as the restaurant division with Wings Over and Moe’s restaurants.  Robert Savin, David’s son is the President of Savin Foods. Today, we operate Savin Foods as Wings Over and Savin Brands as Moe’s Southwest Grill. Additionally, Aldin operates one gas station, 5 self-serve car washes, and distributes fuel to gas stations in Connecticut & Rhode Island.
